As soon as I ordered my iPad 3G I was on the hunt for the ultimate case to protect the coolest media device to date. I ended up spending almost as much on a few cases as I spent on the device itself. Here’s why:
I ran across a pretty interesting challenge. Getting a cool case would take some time due to the fact that what I was looking for doesn’t exist– at least that’s what I thought. First of all, let’s establish what I wanted to do:
1) I wanted to minimize the potential for damage
2) I wanted it to be stylish (It’s a brand thing:-))
3) I wanted to see if this could really replace my Moleskine
I tried three different cases: Dodocase, Hard Candy Cases, and the Apple iPad Case.
Here are my evaluations of each:
The Dodo case is probably the best care design on the market when it comes to mimicking the Moleskine. Made in San Francisco, CA the frame is probably one of the coolest designs I have seen in a long time. The frame is a low-profile, bamboo wood casing that secures the iPad with foam corners. This case makes sketching on the iPad a pleasure because there are no obstructions on the glass. However, this does not protect the iPad from dropping to the ground when you turn it on its side.

The Portenzo is another Moleskine option. However, the company utilizes better cover materials like exotic ostrich and real leather. The casing is not designed as well as the Dodocase, but they claim to be able to deliver quicker.

Hard Candy Cases offer a sleek, form-fitting option to protect you iPad from scratches and dings. Together with an anti-glare sheet on the glass, you can be confident that your iPad will last a long time. The two downsides are: 1) It’s too expensive.
2) Each time you remove the cover, you will need to find a place for it. This is annoying.
